Malaysians (Again) Accuse Government Of Double Standards For Ignoring CMCO Rules

Malaysians are again accusing the government of double standards over allegations that several high ranking officials had breached standard operating procedures (SOP) enforced during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in the Klang Valley and Sabah.

Reportedly, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had chaired a special meeting with members of the Cabinet of Ministers on October 23, 2020.

Istana Negara later confirmed that the PM and other top officials also met with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the royal palace in Pahang that same day.

Muhyiddin’s audience with the King came following speculations that the country might be heading into a state of emergency or darurat.

Images of the official entourage leaving the Prime Minister’s office in Putrajaya and later having discussions with the YDPA began spreading online.

Concerned netizens claimed that the entourage had endangered the Agong as they had broken a number of rules dictated by the CMCO as well as Covid-19 safety guidelines which include:

Restrictions on inter-state and inter-district travel, except for emergency situations.
Travelling with more than 2 people in a vehicle.
“Dining-in” with more than the maximum 4 people allowed per table.
The lack of face masks and a minimum 1-meter physical distancing.
Work-from-home (WFH) restrictions against face-to-face meetings and discussions.

This is such a devastating image when your own 65 year old father is fighting for his life in ICU due to covid and we still yet to know where he got it from. I have no words to express my disappointment with this govt on how they choose to not take SOPs seriously…
